Rainbow Bridge
I've often said that my 4-legged companion of 16 years has probably traveled more and had more unique experiences than many humans. She's also cleaner and has better manners.
She is by nature, the most genteel, humble and brilliant creature I have ever known.
Since the day I backed my jeep up to her isolated pen at the Humane Society exhibit, she's been by my side. Before that day, she was wild and unpredictable. She had been the sole survivor of her litter -- cast into a land-fill by an abusive owner. No one wanted her .... yet, I saw in those sad brown eyes a gentle and loving glimmer ... We bonded immediately. I spoke to her in quiet whispers; she allowed me to attach a leash and lead her to the back of the jeep.
"Get in, Choco."
She jumped into the back, placed her front paws over the back seat, wagged her tail briskly, barked, then glanced around at me with those bright brown eyes as if to say,"OK, now you get in."
I will never forget that moment.
